How this Martial Art Form Started

- Maeda taught his friend’s son named Carlos the techniques of Japanese jujitsu. Along with Carlos, his four brothers also took a deep interest in this sport. Meanwhile the first institute of Jujitsu was introduced in 1920’s in Brazil where they all learnt this art.
- Helio, the youngest of the brothers had other plans. He studied the sport deeply and went on to study Judo as well. He tried and practiced both forms of martial art and eventually became successful in inventing a new self-defense technique called BJJ.
- Helio and his son Rorin started their first BJJ institute in North America, in 1980’s.
